Soothing Sake Bath

In traditional Japanese culture bathing isn't just about cleansing skin, it's a fascinating ritual with links to spirituality and healing that goes back many centuries. But I have adapted this ancient ritual to bring the benefits of traditional Japanese bathing into your own bathroom. Bathing in a hot Sake bath is a wonderful treatment to not just soothe away the aches, pains and tension that build up throughout the day but it will also revive and restore your spirit. The benefits for your skin are also pretty astounding too! Sake has a very gentle but superb natural exfoliating action, so your skin will be soft and utterly smooth. I have created two very simple ways to enjoy your Sake Bath and bring a little bit of soothing ritual into your day.

Choose Your Bathing Ritual

Revive Sake Bath
This reviving bathing ritual is the perfect way to banish tiredness and lethargy. With its stimulating effect it's a really fabulous treatment to help boost yourself up after any spell of illness or just feeling “under the weather”. It also has a wonderfully toning and firming action on the skin, making it the essential pre-holiday skin treatment to ensure your skin is bikini perfect! Choose Fennel or Rosewood Nourish Bath to cleanse your skin and either Cypress or Petitgrain Sake Bath to soak in.

Relax Sake Ritual

This soothing bathing ritual is an amazingly effective way to effortlessly ease away stress and tension. With its relaxing and calming effect it's a wonderful way to prepare your body and mind for a restful nights sleep. Its nurturing action also makes it a cosseting treatment during stressful times. With the skin softening and rejuvenating action of Sake it's the perfect treatment for skin that is dry and irritated, making it a lovely warming remedy for neglected winter skin. Choose Lavender or Geranium Nourish Bath to cleanse your skin with and Chamomile or Geranium Sake Bath to soak in.

Prepare Your Skin

Your Sake bath is all about relaxation and restoring your spirit while gently and effectively softening and soothing your skin. So to get the most out of your Sake bath it's always best to cleanse your body before soaking in the tub. Rather than using a harsh soap or foaming cleanser, try instead one of my gentle Nourish Bath blends. My Nourish Bath makes a really effective cleansing treatment for the body, leaving your skin thoroughly cleansed, yet utterly soft. Before you step into the shower simply massage your chosen Nourish Bath directly onto skin. This simple massage will warm your skin and enable the oils to gently penetrate skin surface and help lift away all the dirt and debris that clings to your skin throughout the day. Then step into a warm shower and gently slough your skin with a cotton flannel to remove the blend and effectively cleanse skin without irritation.

Revive Sake Bath

Before applying your Nourish Bath spend a few moments skin brushing (to find out how just click on "Sensational Skin Brushing". Skin brushing is a simple treatment that not only helps to tone skin but also helps stimulate circulation and really enlivens you! After a bit of vigorous brushing, gently massage into your skin a reviving Nourish Bath blend such as Fennel or Geranium. Your Nourish Bath blend will gently penetrate skin surface helping soften and cleanse your skin. When you have gently massaged the Nourish Bath into your skin, step into a warm shower and with a cotton flannel gently remove your Nourish Bath. Once you have removed all the Nourish Bath, step out of the shower and wrap yourself in a lovely warm bath towel and prepare your bath.

Relax Sake Bath

Before entering the shower take a moment or two to gently massage your skin with a nurturing Nourish Bath such as Lavender or Geranium. Do take your time with this as a gentle massage will really help relax you and make your Sake bath even more enjoyable (simple click on "Blissful Body Massage" to learn some simple massage techniques). Your Nourish Bath blend will gently penetrate skin surface helping soften and cleanse your skin. Step into the shower and with a warm cotton flannel gently exfoliate skin. Step out of the shower and wrap yourself in a lovely warm bath towel.

Prepare Your Bath

Now it's time to fill your tub with lusciously hot water (remember this is the time to indulge yourself!). A traditional Japanese bath is taken with exceedingly hot water but let's not get silly here, just keep the temperature at a very warm but still very comfortable temperature for you. Once your bath is filled to the brim and your have checked that the temperature is perfect for you add a bottle of your Sake Bath and swirl into the water. Then it's time to step into the water and soak. Stay in the water for a good 10 minutes to really enable the Sake to soften and soothe your skin.

After Your Sake Bath

The lovely warm water will have raised your body temperature so it's vital that you keep yourself nice and warm after you have gotten out of the tub. Wrap yourself in a warm bath towel and ever so gently pat skin dry. You will notice that your skin feels soft, plumptious and really rather delectable. This is the perfect time to apply a Nourish Oil as your skin is perfectly cleansed, warm and really receptive to the healing ingredients in your chosen blend. For a relaxing and soothing blend try Lavender Nourish Oil and for those of you wanting a reviving and toning blend try Fennel Nourish Oil. Applying your Nourish Oil after the Sake Bath will ensure your skin is perfectly hydrated and utterly irresistible.
